The Rajdhani Express is a series of superfast trains that connects the capital of India, New Delhi, and metropolitan cities of various states with the capital. As per the Indian language, Rajdhani means "the Capital". Rajdhani Express is among the fastest trains in India, along with other trains such as Train 18, Tejas, Gatimaan, Shatabdi, and Duronto. Being the fastest, they get the highest priority on the railway network over any other express or superfast train. Rajdhani has fewer stops as compared to any other superfast train and stops only at major junctions. Recently, a dynamic fare structure has been enforced on all Rajdhani trains.
The first Rajdhani train, "12301 Howrah Rajdhani Express" started on March 3, 1969, between Howrah and New Delhi, covering a distance of 1,450 km in just 17 hours and 20 minutes.
The classes of travel available on Rajdhani trains are First Class AC (FC), AC 2-tier (2AC), and AC 3-tier (3AC).
